Professor Sunghwan Kim has been selected as the sixth “TJ Park Science Fellow” by the POSCO TJ Park Foundation.The POSCO TJ Park Foundation selects young and promising scientists in various scientific fields, including mathematics, physics, chemistry, and bio-engineering, and supports them so that they may focus on their research and make great contributions to their respective fields. Professor Kim was also chosen to join the fellowship program for young assistant professors. This program has been established for assistant professors in Korean universities with less than 36 months of university work experience as well as those who will be appointed as assistant professors of Korean universities within one year.The TJ Park Science Fellowship was established with the faith and conviction of Park Taejoon, honorary chairman of POSCO, who always emphasized the importance of fostering scientific research for the development of Korea, a country lacking in natural resources, into an advanced country. The recipients of the scholarship receive KRW 35 million a year for two years.The TJ Park Science Fellow is selected after passing a first-round evaluation, including a review of research performance and plan, an examination of the scientist’s evaluation statements, and in-depth interviews conducted by the Selections Committee.The sixth fellow conferment ceremony will be held on the 18th floor of the POSCO Center in the southern part of Seoul on October 24.
